We Pray For Politicians, Not Endorsements- CAN

As pressure continues to pile on the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Benue State chapter bordering the alleged endorsement of the persons seeking elective positions in the 2027 general elections, CAN has denied endorsing any contestant as alleged!

Deputy Vice Chairman of the Benue CAN, Rev. Jonathan Terwase Ugbede made denial of the claim during Executive Council meeting of the association in Makurdi recently. He "CAN has not endorsed anyone and will not endorse any politician." 

According to the association "CAN will continue to pray for the political class and the traditional rulers among other members of the society. 

The Christian body added that politicians who choose to come for prayers would not be denied of the association's divine privilege to intercede, which also has been primary responsibility of the Church to pray for children of God.

It equally explained that seekers of elective political positions want prayers from the church and truly deserve same, however, the politicians must not regard CAN as good platform to seek the political promotions because "CAN will never be partisan." 

The association reminded of not preventing any Christian politician from joining political party of his or her choice to contest, but cautioned "we have no other role to play than offering prayers for the exercise to succeed and deliver the dividends of democracy.

On this position, CAN prayed for the Alia administration in Benue State to succeed and urged Governor Hyacinth Alia to remain resolute on his efforts of executing projects that benefit majority. CAN said the committed efforts would endear Governor Alia more to the majority deserving the increased prayers to succeed on the duty.
