Three Courts Entertaining Journalist Henry Ibya
Trial of the journalist, Henry Ibya of Al Jazirah newspaper in Benue State has continued in Makurdi the state capital!
The Commissioner of Police, Benue State Command had dragged the journalist first to the Chief Magistrate Court in the early part of 2025 on the petition filed by Terna Abuul said to be Director of ICT in the Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi (MOAUM).
Following the petition, Police brought the charges of cyber stalking among others against the journalist and alleged that content of the report authored by journalist in the online news establishment damaged the petitioner's reputation!
When trial resumed on March 11th, 2026 in the Magistrate Court, Counsel to the accused, Tom Uja Esquire disclosed that another fresh charge in the sheet number NMCH/10HC 2025 has been filed at the Benue State High Court 7 with notice fixed for hearing on April 22nd, 2026.
Tom Uja sought termination of the matter in the Magistrate Court and said, it would be in the interest of justice for the parties move to High Court and argue the legality of their claims.
As the prosecution counsel did not object to the request for June 11th, 2026 as date of adjournment, trial Magistrate, D. R. Alashi granted and adjourned the case as sought.
Meanwhile, the matter which has been in desperate Court 5 of the State High Court was fixed for continuation of hearing on April 15th, 2026.
