PDP (G14) Eases Pressure On Alia

Stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from the Jechira axis of Benue State made up of Vandeikya and Konshisha, today met with the party’s G-14 to formally request that the 2027 governorship slot be retained in the area. 

The delegation, led by Dr. Saawuan Tarnongu, said the appeal was anchored on the need to consolidate on the 2023 zoning arrangement, even as they also expressed appreciation to the leadership of PDP for zoning the governorship to Jechira in the last election cycle.

Dr. Tarnongu who said the people of Jechira came to appreciate members of G-14 for their stand on zoning in 2023, noted that although the present occupant of the state’s number one seat, Governor Hyacinth Alia, has brought untold hardship, division, and acrimony to the state, the people of Jechira are appealing for consideration of another Jechira son to salvage the image of the state, which they believe has been negatively impacted under his leadership, with insecurity at its all time high. 

In their separate remarks, Hon. Bemgba Chia - the leader of Vandeikya and Hon. Ortese Kpev - the leader of Konshisha, aligned with Dr. Tarnongu’s position, stating that Jechira has capable sons who can reverse the fortunes of the state.

Also speaking, Ambassador Chive Kaave and Hon. Charles Torbunde, who represented Sankera and MINDA respectively, commended the Jechira delegation for the visit and advised them to engage in wider consultations.

In his remarks, a governorship aspirant, Professor Dennis Ityavyar, appreciated the G-14 for being a stabilizing force in the party and for consistently standing by the truth. Another aspirant, Rt. Hon. Terkaa Ucha, also described the G-14 as a rallying point for the party.

Responding, the leader of the G-14, Dr. Laha Dzever, expressed delight at the visit, noting that the group would continue to play a fatherly role in ensuring justice and fairness for the good of the state.
