NUJ At The Burial Of Leon Usigbe

The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Benue State Council, Comrade Bemdoo Ugber, has called on the family of the late Dr. Leon Usigbe to seek comfort in God alone over his passing. Usigbe was the Bureau Chief of Tribune newspaper at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Ugber urged the family to remain united during this difficult time and to focus on what could bring peace to Leon’s soul in heaven.

Represented by the Council’s Secretary, Comrade Oryiman Gwaza, Ugber stated during the funeral oration in Abuja that Leon’s contributions to Nigeria’s development had been acknowledged by God Himself.

According to him, the Villa, as the seat of power, is one of the most privileged places any journalist would love to work in during their career, and the late Usigbe exceeded expectations. He described Leon’s success as proof of the discipline instilled by the Usigbe family, whose member excelled on life’s journey, leaving no doubt about the family’s quality.

On this note, he called for greater cooperation among the living family members so they could achieve more of the targets set before them. The NUJ Chairman further urged the family to live harmoniously with the widow and children of the deceased, so that God would be glorified.

The eldest member of the family, Pastor Edwin Usigbe, expressed appreciation for the Council’s show of compassion, particularly for the words that soothed the family in their grief.

He assured that the family would reflect on the views expressed by the union, saying: “When adversity strikes and leaves consequences behind, words like those uttered by you truly console, and we do not intend to take them for granted.”

He prayed for God to bless the NUJ with greater progress, not only for their show of solidarity in times of grief but also for accommodating a member of the Usigbe family, Babs Usigbe, within the union.
