Church Urges Government to Prioritize Citizens’ Welfare, Political Tolerance

The All Nations Evangelism Ministry (ANEM) has called on leaders at all levels of government in Nigeria to prioritize the welfare of citizens and embrace political tolerance.

The church made the appeal in a communiqué issued at the end of its Ministerial Development Seminar held in Makurdi, Benue State.

Lamenting recent economic policies, particularly the push to crash food prices without a corresponding reduction in production costs to ease the burden on farmers, the Synod warned that such measures pose a threat to food security and urged the federal government to review them.

The communiqué identified corruption as a major obstacle to Nigeria’s development and urged political leaders to embrace transparency and justice in order to promote good governance.

It stressed that leadership is a divine trust that demands accountability before both God and man, adding that deliberate efforts must be made to improve governance and enhance citizens’ quality of life.

On the rising lack of political tolerance, especially in Benue State, the Synod cautioned that democracy thrives on diverse opinions and warned against targeting individuals for holding opposing views. It also called on the government to strengthen security in the face of persistent threats from armed herders, bandits, kidnappers, and other criminal groups.

The church further appealed to traditional, religious, and political leaders to act urgently and sincerely to save the country from what it described as a preventable collapse. It cautioned that posterity would judge leaders who fail to deliver on their promises of good governance and justice.

With the theme “Be Activated for the Gospel of Jesus,” the Synod urged Christians to rise above fear and complacency in proclaiming Christ through words and actions.
